Diagnostics

We're happy to explain what's actually going on with your vehicle

🔍 Know Before You Decide

A big part of what we do is education — if you have questions about your vehicle, we're happy to walk you through them. That's why we offer diagnostics: so you know exactly what's going on under the hood before deciding what to do next. Below are a few of the core engine tests we run and what each one tells us.

🔧

Compression Test

Measures how much pressure each cylinder builds during its compression stroke — a direct read on the health of the pistons, rings, and valves. Low or uneven compression between cylinders points to internal engine wear.

Leak-Down Test

Pressurizes each cylinder with compressed air and measures how much escapes, pinpointing exactly where an engine is losing compression — worn rings, a leaking valve, or a blown head gasket.

Block Test

Checks the coolant system for combustion gases using a chemical test — a strong indicator of a blown head gasket or cracked block when compression and leak-down results are already pointing that direction.

Oil Pressure Test

Measures the pressure the oil pump is generating to keep the engine's moving parts lubricated. Low oil pressure can mean anything from worn bearings to a failing oil pump, and left unaddressed leads to serious engine damage.
