An OBD-II scan connects a diagnostic reader to the vehicle's onboard computer to pull any stored trouble codes and sensor data. It's a fast, non-invasive way to catch issues the engine has already flagged — like a misfire, an emissions sensor fault, or a transmission concern — before they show up as a visible problem. You'll get a written report of every code found, so you know exactly what you're dealing with before buying or reselling.

A compression test measures how much pressure each cylinder builds during its compression stroke, which is a direct read on the health of the pistons, rings, and valves. Low or uneven compression between cylinders points to internal engine wear that an OBD-II scan alone won't catch. It's especially useful on older or higher-mileage engines, where internal wear is a real risk.

A leak-down test pressurizes each cylinder with compressed air and measures how much of it escapes, pinpointing exactly where an engine is losing compression — worn rings, a leaking valve, or a blown head gasket. It's more precise than a compression test alone because you can often hear or trace where the air is leaking out. We recommend running it alongside a compression test whenever compression numbers come back low or uneven, to confirm the root cause before a purchase decision.
